Mareeba detectives travelled with the man from Tasmania to Cairns where he appeared today (March 9) before the Cairns Magistrates Court

Police have extradited a 25-year-old Ravenswood man from Tasmania, on a charge of murder.

Just before midnight on July 10, 2019 at showgrounds on Mareeba Dimbulah Road an altercation broke out between two men, aged 23 and 35.

A 35-year-old Ayr man sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to Townsville Hospital where he passed away on July 15, 2019.

On July 13, 2019 detectives charged the now 25-year-old Ravenswood man with grievous bodily harm, this charge was subsequently upgraded to murder.

The 25-year-old man was yesterday (March 8) arrested in Tasmania on a Queensland arrest warrant for the charge of murder.

Mareeba detectives travelled with the man from Tasmania to Cairns where he appeared today (March 9) before the Cairns Magistrates Court.

He has been remanded in custody and is expected to next appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 27.
