A student from Mossman State High School and a second from the region have secured grants to help them with their future aspirations.

A high achiever in the Douglas shire has received the perfect kickstart after securing timely financial assistance as she pursues a career as a school teacher.

Mossman State High School student Ellie Zillfleisch was recently confirmed as the recipient of a Teach Queensland grant, an initiative to encourage more young people to chase a career in teaching.

The Government said the grant provides recipients with general financial support and access to unique teaching experiences.

“These young people are high achieving aspiring teachers, high academic achievers and the future leaders of tomorrow,” Cook MP told Newsport.

“Congratulations to all of the recipients.”

Another Douglas shire resident Laverne Woibo, of Hope Vale, also secured a teaching grant.

The grants were open to year 12 graduates from schools right across the state.

Meantime, Ms Cook took the opportunity to catch up with Douglas mayor Michael Kerr recently in Brisbane.
The pair were pictured together at Parliament House.

“Thank you for a wonderful catch up in Parliament this week,” Ms Cook said of the meeting.

“I value the time spent to share views and ideas and look forward to working closely with you in the best interest of the Douglas shire.

Thank you!
