They don’t come more community orientated with a defined mission and purpose to personally change and improve the lives of those across the local Shire then the hardworking and amazingly selfless team at Tin Shed Port Douglas.

Since October last year the establishment has been issuing monthly grants of up to $4000 to local charities, sporting groups, clubs and not-for-profit associations that could do with the funds to fulfil timely upgrades, facility improvements, or to buy much needed equipment.

Take a drive through the Douglas Shire, look around and you can nearly guarantee that a sporting field you can see, a business you pass by, or that local volunteer or charity group you know about have at some time been the beneficiaries of the extraordinary ongoing generosity of the Tin Shed.

The Tin Shed’s community grant program and the reasons they created the concept epitomises small-town living and community spirit at its absolute best.

“We had a run a similar grants program a while back, but this time when we brought it back, we wanted to restructure it so that it was open and available to as many groups in the Douglas Shire as possible,” Tin Shed manager Kyle Livingston explained.

“We want those interested in applying in the future to know it’s a fully inclusive program and that to be eligible there is a simple, straight forward application process to follow in order to be considered.”

Those interested in applying for a Tin Shed community grant need to complete an application form and in the first instance are encouraged to email Kyle at [email protected].

Previous Tin Shed community grant recipients include:

Mossman Sharks, Douglas Paws and Claws, Alexandra Bay Sporting Club, Douglas Hockey, Port Douglas Community Service Network, Mossman Squash and Tennis Club, Wonga Beach State School P&C Committee, Mossman State School P&C Association, Douglas Shire Seniors, Douglas Shire Historical Society, Douglas United Football Club, Mossman Meals on Wheels, CWA Port Douglas.
