Lagoon House Restaurant - Finding Happiness

“All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast” (John Gunther).
And so it was on a fine tropical morning that a friend and I were welcomed to the new Lagoon House Restaurant (Sheraton Grand Mirage) to sample their breakfast fayre and find happiness at a leisurely pace.
You’ll find the new restaurant located just off from the iconic Four Mile Beach next to the wedding chapel in the grounds of the five star acclaimed Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort.
The restaurant has been designed to fit seamlessly into its idyllic surroundings with its al fresco dining and open plan kitchen. We could have chosen to sit at bar stools around the kitchen sushi style, but decided on a shaded table for two.
The Lagoon House Restaurant is as near to the iconic Four Mile Beach as you can get without getting sandy feet, I wished (with the twitch of a nose, Bewitched style) that I could have magically swapped my dress and high heels for just a bikini to truly blend in with the tropical vibe.

The menu was presented with the words “Rise and Shine” emblazoned across the top. A sign of the zest and playfulness of the menu to come. And sure enough there were dishes to choose from with names such as “Cheeky Pig Bun”, “Umami Shrooms Toast” and “The 3 P’s” (with plenty of options for vegan and gluten free).
My friend chose One Pan Green Eggs and Ham and I chose Daintree Eggs Royale. The One Pan Green Eggs and Ham consisted of smoked ham hock, baked eggs, spiced beans, parsley and sourdough. It came served in an iron skillet and garnished with locally grown red veined sorrel.
My friend liked the piquancy of the dish, the beans weren’t too spicy and just tangy enough with the other flavours, but not enough to overpower the food. The snooty nosed illustration depicted on the Australian Cultured butter container tickled us.
I chose the Daintree Eggs Royale (Chef’s signature dish). Eggs Benedict with a cunning twist. Instead of salmon, smoked Barramundi with poached eggs, spinach, English muffins and sambal hollandaise. Being English, I do stick to my roots that muffins are imperative in Eggs Benedict, so I was not disappointed.
The saltiness of the smoked barramundi complimented the blandness of the eggs and added another flavoursome dimension alongside the slight tang of the sambal in the hollandaise.
Lagoon House is all about aligning the senses to happiness. Sight, Smell. Taste and Sound. The gong at Lagoon House is not just an ornament, but is an instrument of ritual, ceremony, prayer and meditation, and is one of man’s most transformational instruments.
When the Lagoon House gong sounds it creates a feeling of connectedness between all who hear it.
The Paiste Gong with the Tai Loi Symbol translates to “Happiness has Arrived”. When guests hear the gong they know happiness is about to arrive on the plate before them.
Happiness was indeed achieved and our bellies also had a big smile. I was certainly the queen of multitasking as I can eat breakfast and think about lunch, and after such a delicious breakfast I was looking forward to sampling their lunch and dinner offerings next month.
It was good to see ingredients being sourced from local suppliers, which is great for freshness and, of course, helps the local economy too.
This stylishly refurbished restaurant welcomes all visitors and it’s an ideal place to end a beach walk for breakfast - just look out for the golden coconut turn off on the beach!
