Macrossan Street recently underwent a mini-facelift, welcoming three new business spaces that are now home to renowned establishments: Maker Port Douglas, Marino Lawyers, and the recently opened SEA Gallery.

This week sees the completion of the trio with the opening of SEA Gallery. After overcoming the final certification hurdles, they seamlessly settled in, enjoying the advantage of moving just a few doors down.

“We loved our old store but had outgrown the space,” shop owner Stephanie Elizabeth said.

“Now, with our new space, we’re excited to introduce a range of new products, including linen tea towels, cushions, and exclusive candles and diffusers featuring our artwork. Plus, the new space allows for regular workshops starting from the Easter School holidays onwards, catering to both kids and adults.”

Stephanie noted that having Maker next door makes it convenient for customers to find locally made homewares on Macrossan Street. “Maker has long supported our products, sharing our values of slow living and artisan goods.

“Marino Lawyers have always provided excellent service for our property transactions in the area. Their new location makes it even more convenient for us to reach out when needed.”

Raine Ward at Maker faced the wild arrival of Cyclone Jasper on its opening day in the new space, a roller coaster for owner Raine Ward with the shop open, closed, then open again during floods and the cyclone.

However, this didn’t dampen their excitement for finally unveiling their beautifully decorated new space. Both Raine and her mother, avid DIY enthusiasts, handcrafted all the furniture in the shop from recycled timber or marketplace finds, aligning with their focus on sustainability.

'With our larger space, we’re expanding our offerings, particularly in furniture and larger items," Raine said. "Our goal is to become the go-to local store for these needs, reducing the need to go to Cairns."

Adding to the vibrant mix, Marino Lawyers made the move from their previous spot at Macrossan House in January.

Director Maree Mazur noted that the ground floor was a must to ease accessibility for clients.

“The move has been bittersweet as Marino Lawyers has been trading from the Macrossan House premises since it took over the business from Arthur Timms in 2005, nearly 20 years ago,” she added

“We understand this site is the old Mango Jam site which has remained idle for some years. We think the Landlords have done a great job creating a fresh revamped space that blends professionally with the coastal ambiance of Macrossan Street. We are excited to be part of this transformation.”
