To help those in need the Mossman Combined Churches group has made a generous donation of $1000 to Daintree State School.

The donation will help cover any school fees or levies for students in need.

Many local families are still struggling three months since Cyclone Jasper hit our area - the Mossman Combined Churches group are helping make a difference.

Following the group's ‘Sing for your supper’ charity event in February it was decided the proceeds would go towards one of the local primary schools.

“We recently emailed all the schools in our area and Daintree State School responded. So, we donated the proceeds of the event to them,” Combined Churches group Jannelle Shrimpton told Newsport.

“Overall, we feel that Daintree has been forgotten amidst all of this. Theres heaps of families, especially farmers, who still need help."

On March 22 the Combined Churches group visited Daintree State School to meet with some of the students as well as principal Jacqui Osborne. Ms Shrimpton was also accompanied by fellow group members Pastor Nadia Abraham and Martine Plumbe.

While in the Daintree Village Ms Shrimpton also met with Peter Provost and his team at BlazeAid Daintree who continue to support around 20 farmers in our area, helping with fencing and other cleanup efforts.

“We want to help them, help people,” Janelle told Newsport.

Newsport also spoke with Mr Provost about ways anyone in the community can help BlazeAid.

“Right now, what we need most is experienced fencers to lead teams. For every four volunteers we need one team leader."

Other than volunteering Mr Provost stated that he’d like to see any food or supplies on offer go to the families they are helping, rather than them.
