A woman continues to recover after sustaining minor burns to a hand after a house fire in the Daintree.

Mossman Criminal Investigation Branch Detectives responded to reports of the fire at Ronald Road, Forest Creek around 4.30am yesterday morning but emergency service personnel couldn’t prevent the two-storey house from being destroyed.

Police said the cause of the fire has not been deemed suspicious.

Meantime, a 35 year-old Varsity Lakes man was due to face Townsville Magistrates Court yesterday in relation to an alleged shooting on Collins Avenue, Edge Hill just days ago in Cairns.

The man has been charged with acts intended to maim, disfigure, or disable and contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

Police said the charges come after two vehicles allegedly collided and one person discharged a firearm at another person before the alleged offender left the scene by foot.

Police said a 43-year-old man was located later that day with a non-life threatening single gunshot wound to a leg.

Lastly, the Forensic Crash Unit continues to investigate after the death of a 77 year-old man following a traffic crash in Mareeba just days ago.

Police said early Investigations indicate a 2004 Mazda3, a 2020 Mitsubishi Triton and a 2015 Honda CB125 motorbike were involved in a traffic crash at around 10.30am on Herberton Street last Thursday.

As a result the 77-year-old Mareeba man sustained life-threatening injuries and later, very sadly, passed away from his injuries at Cairns Hospital.

Police said the occupants of the other two vehicles were uninjured.

Anyone with dashcam footage of this incident is encouraged to contact Mareeba Police.
