Tourism Port Douglas Daintree is on the hunt for a new CEO following the recent resignation of Glen Hingley.

Douglas Shire water restrictions

In a positive step DSC confirmed local restrictions moved from level four to three on May 2.

DSC cited the end of the wet season, water conservation efforts of the community and tourism industry, as well as initiatives by Council to improve water security as the reasons behind the welcomed move.

Council said production levels at the Whyanbeel Water Treatment Plant will increase when new ultrafiltration treatment units are commissioned while the installation of an interconnector pipeline between Mossman and Whyanbeel water schemes is complete.

Council said more than 200 network leaks have been fixed while it has also purchased 30 new water tanks.

Douglas Shire jobs expo

The event will run from 10.30am– 12pm.

Carnivale preparations continue to ramp up

One of the Douglas Shire’s premier events, Carnivale, continues to take shape ahead of its 30th year of celebrations.

The event will take place from May 24-26 with 21 separate events packed in over the three days.

New additions include Savour TNQ and Paradise Picnic while other attractions like Symphony under the stars by Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Wonderland Spiegeltent, Tin Shed family beach day, Street Parade, the longest lunch, art and photography exhibitions, Port Douglas music trails and more are sure to entertain the masses.

Taste Port Douglas

Meantime, another popular year event, Taste Port Douglas also continues to step things up ahead of that event from August 8-11.

As usual local eateries will welcome a series of chef-led events, including the sell-out long sea-side luncheons, ‘A Night of Fire’ at Flames of the Forest as well as new and exciting event additions that will cater to all ages.

With 25 events taking place over the four-day weekend, the star studded line-up will include the likes of celebrity chefs Colin Fassnidge Manu Feildel.

Port Douglas splash park

The Port Douglas splash park looks set to be delayed with Council telling Newsport late last year the first sod was likely to be turned around June or July this year.

As it stands Mayor Lisa Scomazzon told Newsport the project isn’t expected to get off the ground until around December.

At the last Council meeting Council said the project is still in the design phase.

Cotchin to Crocs

Local footy fans continue to lick their lips following the confirmation three time Richmond Tigers premiership player Trent Cotchin will line up with the club for a match against the Cutters in July.

The appearance is smilar in nature to that of Gary Ablett Jr who lined up for the Bulldogs last season in a regular season AFL Cairns match.
