Kaydee Reynolds’ star is shining brightly, the Mossman High School Year 9 student the recent winner of the junior section of the Cairns-All Schools-Writing and Speaking Literary Eisteddod.

Kaydee is the Junior School Captain at Mossman High School and a prominent member of the school's concert band, but that is just a glimpse of the youngster’s achievements.

The Book Lounge, Port Douglas, owner and Kaydee’s mentor, James Buckley, has expressed his pride in his pupil who won the overall most promising award as the highest achievement for students from grade 7 to 12.

The big win came as Kaydey won three out of four separate Eisteddfod awards and getting highly commended in the other one.

Kaydee won the categories of: creative writing years 7-9; speech writing 7-9 year levels; report writing 7-9; and was highly commended in poetry writing.

For her creative writing section, Kaydee took a very Douglas Shire approach to the task.

“The theme you had to follow was ‘not again’ and I wrote about a dog that kept on barking and the owners were sick of it,” Kaydee said.

"(But) eventually it came in handy when a dingo came to attack the chickens.”

Kaydee said she the Eisteddfod win came as a surprise.

“I was a bit shocked to win, coming from such a small school, but it was very good,’’she said.

The humble, multi-talented student - also a saxophone and clarinet player and in her first year of girl’s football with the Port Douglas Crocs, has a goal, and it is not to be a saxophone-playing, footy-playing writer when she grows up.

“I want to be an actor,’’ Kaydee said.

“I do drama at school.”
