A decade of Barbados – a new chapter begins
EXCITING CHANGES

BUSINESS FEATURE
This year marks a very special milestone - 10 years of Barbados Port Douglas. Founded as a 3-year pop-up ahead of a proposed marina redevelopment, Barbados has since grown into a much-loved part of the Port Douglas experience, proud to have evolved with and been inspired by the town it calls home.
Founded by mother-and-son team, Wendy McWilliam and her son Edward, who together designed, built and operated the venue, Barbados has always been a family story at its heart.
“It has been both our privilege and our pleasure to welcome and serve our community over the past decade,” said Wendy McWilliam. “We’ve shared countless sunsets, celebrations, and island-style moments with loyal locals, the wider community, and wonderful guests from across Australia and overseas - some returning every year for the full 10 years.
"We are deeply grateful for the kindness and support that has carried us well beyond the original vision, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
“Looking ahead, our regular day-to-day trading will come to a close on Sunday evening, 12 October 2025,” Wendy explained. “This change allows us to take some special time with family, and enjoy a much-needed break. It also gives us the opportunity to refresh and prepare our space for what’s to come.
"Most importantly, it gives Barbados the freedom to begin designing more curated and bespoke experiences - something that has been consistently requested by both locals and visiting guests.”
Barbados will be available for Private Hire, giving guests exclusive access to make the iconic waterfront space their own. Custom-designed events will be created in collaboration with Martinique Island Style - the sister business specialising in interiors, styling and retail - and Eventcore, specialists in weddings and events.
This partnership brings together style, expertise and creativity, perfectly aligned with the next chapter of Barbados.
Demand is evident, with multiple bookings confirmed from local businesses and community groups - including more than 10 Christmas parties locked in for this year, alongside weddings and upcoming corporate events.
Alongside private hire, Barbados will also host a calendar of Seasonal Ticketed Events, open to everyone. These occasions may include Boujee Brunches, Wellness by the Water, Champagne Sunset Soirées, Island-Style Caribbean BBQs, Signature Long-Table Dinners, New Year’s Eve parties and more - the kind of experiences guests can plan a trip north around or enjoy if they are fortunate enough to call Port Douglas home.
There’s clear local appetite for favourites such as our historic and much-loved Sunday Sessions to return, reinforcing that this new chapter is shaped by what our community has been asking for. While these are just examples, each event will bring fresh energy and new reasons to celebrate at Barbados.
“Barbados Port Douglas will continue to evolve in ways that honour our community, our loyal guests, and our unique island-style beach club vibe,” said Wendy. “
This next chapter is about celebrating together - always with gratitude, and with the same warmth that has defined Barbados from the very beginning. After taking this important time with family, we look forward to returning with fresh energy - creating more moments, more memories, and more reasons to return, celebrate, and enjoy Barbados here in Port Douglas. For updates, we’d love you to stay connected with us via our socials.”
