Crushing cane news, cyclone preparations, coaches, crocs and other creatures are making headlines in this week’s FREE print edition of Newsport Daily, available across the Douglas Shire at plenty of great local businesses and outlets.

The news the 130 year sugar industry at the heart of Mossman and surrounding agricultural district will come to an end at the end of this year with MSF Sugar shutting down its plans to haul Mossman cane to Mulgrave for processing has struck the Shire hard, even though hopes had been fading for years.

We have the full story in detail in print as the Shire growers look to a future in a different field.

Crocs have made a splash, and international headlines, on the back of Newsport’s coverage of a cheeky little crocodile taking a dip in the Sheraton Mirage pool on Saturday morning and a couple of drongos swimming in the Daintree.

And there is sad news on the dingo protection front, a young pup in remote Cape York being destroyed after losing a paw in a trap.

Learn more about being cyclone prepared from the Douglas Disaster Management Group and see what’s happening at some of the region’s favourite businesses, the Barrier Reef Tavern and The Surfy and the new Baha Villas.

Another fallen croc is Port Douglas Football Club coach Nick Salter who is trying to get answers on why he was sacked after being named AFL Cairns Coach of the Year.

All that and plenty more can be found in this week’s edition of Newsport Daily Print, on the stands now at the following outlets.
