A woman has been rescued from the most northern point of Australia, Pajinka, after breaking her ankle venturing to the popular remote destination.

On Wednesday, officers from Bamaga Police Station came to the aid of the woman at the northern tip of Cape York.

In a coordinated effort with Queensland Ambulance Service, the woman was safely winched from the remote location.

Queensland Police have shared a dramatic picture, taken by Constable Turner, of the coordinated rescue.

High speed driver hit with $3000 in fines

Officers from Cairns Highway Patrol have issued a 29-year-old Bamaga man with two Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) totally $3170 after intercepting a Toyota Landcruiser in Laura on Friday, 3 October.

Around 4.30pm, police allegedly detected the vehicle driving 142km/h in a 100km/h zone.

It is further alleged a three-year-old passenger was not properly restrained in the vehicle.

The man was issued two TINs for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h ($1919) and driving a motor vehicle while a passenger under four years was unrestrained ($1251).

He received 12 demerit points, and his licence was suspended.

Police are urging motorists to drive with care, even on rural and remote roads.

Officers can be anywhere at any time conducting proactive patrols to reduce road trauma.

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.

Data shows that serious crashes can be significantly reduced when drivers recognise and avoid the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviours: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.
