Limited access to women’s healthcare spurs Port Douglas menopause workshop
EXPERT GUIDANCE

BUSINESS FEATURE
Access to expert healthcare in the Douglas Shire can be limited, and many local women miss out on specialist guidance for menopause. With October marking Menopause Awareness Month globally, attention is turning to a major event in Port Douglas aiming to change that.
On November 9, specialists from Melbourne will gather at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort for “No More Rehearsals”, a full-day workshop offering practical tools and science-backed guidance on women’s health, sleep, empowerment, and menopause resilience.
The workshop is being facilitated by Jacqueline Pascarl practice manager at Menopause Mentor Melbourne, who has spent decades helping women manage menopause through lifestyle and nutrition.
Jacqueline regularly holidays in Port Douglas, and during her last visit, conversations with local women about their struggles with menopause and accessing specialist care inspired her to take action.
“Women in regional areas rarely get access to specialist advice,” she said. “That’s why we are bringing a team of world-renowned experts to Port Douglas.
Women will learn, ask questions, hear real scientific facts, and gain the tools to navigate perimenopause, menopause, and beyond with strength and confidence.”
Jacqueline brings both professional expertise and lived experience, having survived breast and ovarian cancer, endured stillbirth, and navigated surgical menopause, while also working globally in women’s health.
Having seen the difference health, education, and empowerment can make, she wants every woman to gain the knowledge, tools, and resilience to live stronger, maintain dignity, and age well.
“Perimenopause can begin 10 to 12 years before menopause, sometimes as early as your mid-30s,” Jacqueline explained.
“This is when women need the most support, a toolkit, and a roadmap for what to expect and how to cope. Strength, bone health, and mental wellness in your 30s affect how we live in our 60s and beyond. It’s vital to our work, relationships, and even our love life.
The workshop will feature a panel of specialists covering a wide range of health topics.
Dr Ian Maratos, known as The Snore Fix Doctor, will address sleep, snoring, and apnea.
Emeritus Professor Dr Michael J Bennett, former Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of New South Wales and the Royal Hospital for Women will share his expertise in reproductive health.
TV personality and criminal psychologist Tim Watson-Munro will discuss resilience, mood management, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Annebelle Van Tongeren, a Senior Yoga Australia Teacher and certified Menopause Yoga instructor, will provide guidance on flexibility, pelvic floor strength, balance, and emotional well-being.
Port Douglas local fitness coach Amy from LiftHer will also take part, demonstrating how strength training can protect bone health and prevent osteoporosis, an essential but often overlooked aspect of women’s long-term wellness.
Through “No More Rehearsals,” Jacqueline hopes to give women in regional Queensland access to the knowledge, practical tools, and confidence they need to thrive through menopause and life beyond.
