A motorbike rider who was clocked doing 145km/h in an 80 zone near Palm Cove has had his licence immediately taken away from him and has copped a huge fine.

The 33-year-old Trinity Park man was riding his Kawasaki just after 9am on the Captain Cook Highway on Friday (October 17).

After being caught, the man was given an infringement notice, fined about $1900 and had his licence immediately suspended for six months.

He also lost eight demerit points.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a man in his 20s was rushed to hospital with a shoulder injury after a crash on Walsh Street, Mareeba, at about 7.45pm last night.

He was in a stable condition in Mareeba Hospital following the incident.
