A 19-year-old man has been charged with armed robbery after a kayak was used to paddle up a nearby creek to a Mareeba home in an attempt to steal a car.

At about 3pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 14), a 24-year-old Mareeba man allegedly found the man bogged in his Toyota Hilux at a Dimbulah Road property and tried to pull him out of the car.

The 19-year-old was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after an alleged altercation.

He was charged with armed robbery and evasion.

The man was refused bail and was due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, October 15).

Tablelands detectives are appealing for the owner of the green kayak to come forward.
