The police eye in the sky is back on Port Douglas Road.

This time on the other side of the road leading into Port Douglas just past the Oaks resort, the portable surveillance camera unit is expected to catch out more drivers breaking the road rules, including playing on their phones and driving faster than the 60km/h speed limit.

A similar camera was installed on the opposite side of the road across from the Oaks for about a week earlier this year.

This one is yellow with multiple cameras and microphones and features yellow signs which read: “Warning, video and audio surveillance in use”.

This follows police releasing statistics in September after a six-week blitz on Far North Queensland roads, with close to 7500 breath tests carried out during that time.

Police issued close to 300 traffic infringements during that time, including more than 50 for drug driving.

If you have information for police about this, or any other, incident contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersqld.com.au.
