YOU SAID IT! Petition for public transport
Letters and Comments

Yep,we Douglas so desperately needs a basic public transport system, especially to and from Cairns, as well as locally . Around 2005-07....when I was on Council I lobbied the State Govt endlessly for a simple bus run to Cairns . The then ALP State member was Jason O'Brien and he did nothing but block me. So how does a student or a pensioner get to medical or whatever services in Cairns with only expensive tourist transport to just the airport? It's time MP Kempton helped.

Let's see if a successful scheduled transfer can take place from Port to Mossman works to justify expense.

I have a doctor's appointment at Cairns hospital ever 3 months. It costs me $110 return. What a rip off.

Thank you Channi and Newsport for shining light on a dire issue in the shire. We should not in this time and era even be having this discussion. Our towns, communities and residents are completely disconnected particularly the young, old, and disabled. It feels third world not to offer public transport in a heavily visited area where tourism is the main industry. Many residents are physically and socially isolated due to lack of transport not to mention peoples ability to get to and from work. Not everyone has the luxury to own nor wants to run a vehicle especially with rising cost of living. Even if the public transport proposed isn’t subsidised for 50c, it’s still needed and even a $5 dollar bus ride between towns would be a massive game changer. Anything is better than what we have now which is zero.

When will these muppets be realistic? Stated the next stage of the trail is from Ellis Beach to Wangatti. Take a look at the sheer almost vertical CLIFF behind all along Ellis Beach. How can they build a trail on the side of an almost verticals cliff for several kilometres north of Ellis Beach? Again look at what these clowns have built already - it got washed away in a heavy rain storm. No one is seen to be using it. This is pipe dreams and if a few kilometres built so far cost over $5,000,000 - ask yourself how much will the other 65 plus kilometres. Folks the politicians pipe dream figures don’t add up. Who does the maintenance which would also be enormous cost? Tell them they are dreaming.

To be fair in the last couple of weeks it's starting to look like an actual road again. You can see the progress and I'm glad they're getting the job done. I'm getting less delays and I drive it 6 days a week.
