Fresh and friendly. That’s how the impending new menu at Oaks Port Douglas Resort has been described by Head Chef, Mark McKeown. After listening to feedback from both locals and visitors, the food offering at the popular resort is set to undergo a tantalising transformation, under the guidance of Mr McKeown and his 25 years of experience.

With local suppliers playing a starring role, the revamped menu will focus heavily on quality meat, fresh seafood and share-style dishes in direct response to what’s been asked for during Mr McKeown’s first six months in the top spot.

“When people come to Far North Queensland, they want seafood and they want variety, which are things that the previous menu was lacking,” Mr McKeown said. “We’ve put a strong focus on local produce so our customers can get a real taste for the region. They’ll know that their prawns have come from the local trawler and the beef was raised nearby and it will just enhance their experience.”

This will be the first menu update in almost two years for Oaks Port Douglas Resort with changes including a move towards a more communal way of dining. The introduction of entrée platters and smaller share-friendly dishes will offer patrons a more relaxed dining experience and a taste of the Queensland lifestyle.

Born and raised in Townsville, Mr McKeown has perfected infusing the tropics into his dishes and hopes that by stepping out of the norm, his new menu will become a signature for the resort. By offering more desserts, and local cheeses as well as revamping the beloved pizza menu, the hotel can begin to create a unique identity that sets it apart from its competition.

“The pizza menu has just been jazzed up a bit, it’s nothing too drastic,” he assured. “There will be 15 premium pizzas and a lot more vegetarian and vegan options.”

While the official launch date for the new menu is yet to be announced, eager patrons can anticipate a mid-January reveal with Oaks Port Douglas Resort welcoming everyone to embark on their new culinary journey that truly reflects the beauty and produce of the Far North.
