The Douglas Shire Historical Society will celebrate Anzac Day with a photographic display in the Douglas Shire Council foyer in Mossman, from today until next Wednesday May 1.

The Diggers of Douglas, a profile of the soldiers who enlisted from our Shire in World War I, has a special place, with a computer program detailing their service and their campaigns, featuring video interviews with their local relatives.

This project was initiated to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of the war in 1918, with assistance from Queensland Government.

With thorough research at the time, it was discovered that the Roll of Honour at the Council offices is missing some names, which have been included in the computer program.

After a few years’ hiatus, the Society is very pleased to share this exhibition once again with the community.

An accompanying book is available for purchase for $10 cash.

Many photographs are also on show, with some interesting information boards. Volunteers from the Historical Society will be on hand to provide more information.

The foyer is open from 8.30am till 4pm Monday to Friday.

Meantime, various ANZAC Day services will be held throughout the Shire this Thursday.
