Local Sports makes up a huge part of the Douglas Shire community. It is local businesses that provide essential support to help these sports clubs grow and compete at the highest level. SportsPower Port Douglas is one of these businesses; they are a sponsor of the Reef Raiders rugby team and support various other sporting teams and groups in our region.

New owners Pete Gilmoure, and Cheryl Ross, took over the business in December and have since used the SportsPower business as a way to contribute more to the community and support local sporting. Mr Gilmoure spoke with Newsport on ownership of the business.

“I never thought I would be in retail,” said Mr Gilmoure.

“But we thought it was something we can get some value from,”.

The couple have lived in the area for 11 years and Mr Gilmoure has played for the Reef Raiders during that time. He also coaches the junior team in Port Douglas.

“I’ve played most of the sports available in our area and now its great to be on the other side of that,”.

“We are able to help kids from our region get into sports, and support the teams they play for,”. Mr Gilmoure stated.

Overall, SportsPower Port Douglas contributes a lot to local sporting. Mr Gilmoure and Ms Ross have been working hard to give back to the community since taking over the business and their future support will only further benefit sports clubs in our area.
