A 37-year-old Mossman woman has been arrested on multiple charges of assaulting police following an incident in the main street just after 9pm last night.

Police said they attended an altercation between two groups on Front Street, Mossman, when they were approached by a woman yelling profanities at them.

Some people convinced her to leave, but shortly after a car was seen swerving along the road past the officers.

Police pulled the car over and attempted to breath-test the female driver, but she refused and allegedly kicked two officers.

She was taken to the Cairns Watchhouse where she allegedly spat in the face of another officer.

A Mossman woman has been charged with two counts of assaulting police, as well as the serious assault of police by spitting, obstructing police, public nuisance, driving under the influence and failing to provide a specimen of breath.

She has been denied bail and was due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today (August 28).
