Chillagoe SES will upgrade its kitchen and storage facilities with more than $11,000 in grant funds.

Critical funding to strengthen the emergency response capability of State Emergency Services (SES) groups across Queensland, including those serving the Mareeba Shire, have been welcomed by Member for Cook, David Kempton.

As part of the SES Support Grant initiative, the Chillagoe SES will receive $11,761 to upgrade its kitchen and storage facilities.

Mr Kempton said the grants are a vital investment in the safety and resilience of the Mareeba Shire.

“The SES are the backbone of disaster response in our region, and I’m proud that our government recognises it and backs their work,” Mr Kempton said.

“This funding will directly improve the ability of our local SES volunteers to respond quickly and effectively in times of crisis.”

“The State Emergency Service (SES) play a critical role in keeping our community safe through rescues, natural disaster response, incident management and community preparedness,” Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin said.

“We are grateful to receive funding from the Queensland Government which will support an upgrade to the kitchen and storage area at the Chillagoe SES facility.”

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Dan Purdie, said the grants highlight the Government’s ongoing commitment to disaster preparedness across Queensland.

“Our SES volunteers are always there when communities need them most,” Minister Purdie said.

“These grants will ensure they have the tools, facilities, and resources they need to keep Queenslanders safe during natural disasters and emergencies.”

The $1.97 million funding supports 32 SES groups across Queensland, empowering frontline volunteers who play a vital role in protecting communities throughout the state.
