Get ready for some fun and creativity across the Douglas Shire - the Scarecrow Competition is back! You’ve got until 3 June to build and enter your scarecrow, with great prizes up for grabs.

After the success of last year’s first-ever competition, Tanya Morris from the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre is inviting everyone to get involved again.

The idea is simple: create a scarecrow that can be seen from the street to brighten up the neighbourhood and get people talking.

Ms Morris said the idea behind the competition was to bring people together in a lighthearted way.

“We wanted to create something fun that also strengthens community connections,” she said.

“You can let your creativity run wild, and if you need materials, you can find some at the NicNak shed to help bring your scarecrow to life.”

People are encouraged to put their scarecrows on display in their front yards, ready to impress passersby and visitors.

The details

Entering is easy: simply snap a photo of your scarecrow and email it to Tanya Morris at [email protected] by 3rd of June.

Community voting will run from 3rd of June to 17th June via a poll on Newsport, with the winners to be announced shortly after.

First prize is a $100 Mossman Hardware voucher, second prize a $75 voucher, and third prize a $50 voucher.
