Close to 300 boxing fans gathered on a balmy tropical Saturday night for the Port Douglas Fight Night on the lawns in front of the rugby club.

In the main event, experienced welterweight Uton Chanavon - who has had more than 100 bouts - proved too strong for Joshua Harris, who was in his first professional fight.

The result was a technical knockout at the 1 minute, 41 second mark of the second round, with Harris left seeing stars under the Port Douglas night sky after some clean hitting by his more seasoned opponent.

In the middleweight lead-up bout, fan favourite Jake Gepp was equally clinical in his win against Maddax Walpole-Bennett.

In other results: Dan Lowe defeated Brandon Jay-Kilty; Akon Ali d Nathan de Bono; Noah Balderson d Jack Zitha; Cayden Cahill d Hector Mousqueton; Joshua Matson d Ietere (Ben) Teaero; Tamlan Wallwork-Black d Haldane (Hally) Tapim, and; Kevin Simpson d Tosh Pichler.

The Muddies Third Grade team bounced back in a big way on Saturday, comfortably beating previously undefeated top team Mulgrave Kerala.

The win was set up by an excellent effort in the field after captain Adrian Bannerman lost the toss.

Opening bowler Pete Gilmour set the standard with the ball with a top opening spell (1/7 from 5 overs), well supported at the other end by Jackson Hopkinss (0/6 from 5 overs).

But handy inclusion Cam Adam did most of the damage, taking 4/23 from seven overs, with Mulgrave Kerala dismissed for 87 in the 32nd over.

The only batsman to make double figures was number 10 Lejoy Chambilil Mathew (29).

With the bat, Muddies opener Cam Williams topscored with 39 in a total of 6/89 in 27.3 overs.

In the Fourth Grade competition, the Muddies batted first against Norths and posted 6/93 in 35 overs, with Zack Faulkner top scoring on 27 not out.

The Norths batsmen chased the total down in 23.3 overs, finishing on 3/94.
