Parked car catches fire in Warner Street
Port Douglas
A car fire on Warner Street in the Port Douglas CBD has been rapidly extinguished thanks to the quick thinking of staff at a local real estate agent.
At about 11.10am, a Tony McGrath Real Estate Port Douglas staff member saw a car out the window in front of the shop which was emitting a lot of smoke, and then caught fire near the back driver’s-side window.
The staff member called the fire department, with one truck rushing to the scene within minutes and putting the fire out by breaking one of the windows and isolating the blaze, a witness said.
The three car occupants were believed to be at a nearby coffee shop when the incident took place, and there were no injuries.
Travelling equipment such as camping gear and other materials were damaged in the blaze.
Police cordoned off the area, with Warner Street temporarily blocked while the fire was brought under control.
