“Potential long traffic delays” are expected on Kuranda Range Road tomorrow as repairs are being done to Skyrail's cableway that crosses the busy highway, the Traffic and Main Roads Department (TMR) says.

The delays are expected from 9am on Saturday, August 8, subject to weather.

“Skyrail has advised the activity is weather dependent and will involve six maximum 15-minute traffic holds at a traffic-control site at the hairpin bend,” TMR states.

“Should the activity be impacted by weather conditions on Saturday, Skyrail has advised it will reschedule to Sunday.”

Meanwhile, separate night closures on the road will be continuing until Thursday, September 24, to help fix the downslope slip below Henry Ross Lookout.

The road is closed at 9pm and reopens at 4am, from Sundays to Thursdays, with traffic being let through once in each direction at midnight.

The works include paving the road and installing a new guardrail.
