From kayaking across Lake Tinaroo to stepping up to the mic at Cluster Band Camp, Wonga Beach State School students have had an action-packed term of outdoor adventure, musical teamwork, and personal milestones.

The outdoor season kicked off with the Year 6 cohort joining neighbouring schools for an intensive trip to Lake Tinaroo, where students tackled rock walls and navigated open water under the guidance of teacher Mrs Woods.

Shortly after, Year 5s headed to Holloways Beach for a three-day stint focused on self-reliance, cooking their own meals alongside high-ropes courses, bushtucker tastings, and boat cruises.

Music students also got their time in the spotlight, teaming up with regional peers at Miallo under the instruction of instructor Mr David to refine their ensemble skills.

The school's camp model is intentionally designed as a gradual ladder toward independence.

Early childhood students (Prep to Year 2) start with day excursions, Year 3 and 4s progress to an on-campus overnight sleepover, and Year 5 and 6 students take on multi-day coastal and highland expeditions.

Community funding played a key role in keeping the tradition accessible, with regular raffle nights at the Mossman Bowls Club subsidising travel and activity costs for local families.
