Basketball, rugby league, surf life saving, AFL, soccer, netball, sailing - kids, pick your sport for the year now and escape your devices at the same time.

A host of dry-season sports have been holding sign-on sessions and come-and-try days for both junior and senior players at the moment, including Douglas Heat basketball club, Sharks rugby league, the Port Douglas netball competition, the Port Douglas Life Saving Club nippers’ program and the Crocs AFL teams.

And don’t forget the Douglas United Dragons junior and senior soccer teams and Reef Raiders rugby union senior squads.

This Saturday, Douglas Heat is holding a sign-on day at Mossman Indoor Sports Centre from 10am to 2pm, which includes events such as the under-10s fun and games at 11.30am and the all-ages half-court shoot out at midday.

For the junior Dragons, introductory training sessions are being held tonight (Thursday, February 12) and next Tuesday and Thursday at the club’s pitch at Cassowary Road, Mossman.

The Douglas Netball Association has scheduled a sign-on day for both juniors and seniors on Tuesday, February 24, at the Port Douglas courts next to the footy and cricket oval.

The Crocs AFL and Sharks rugby league clubs both started their junior training schedule in the past week, and are training regularly from now on, while the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club is holding a sign-on day on Sunday, April 19.

Look up the clubs’ social media sites for details on these or the other sports of your choice.

You know you want to, sports lovers!
