A 32-year-old woman has been arrested on dangerous driving charges after a Toyota hilux crashed into an embankment following a collision between two cars on the Cook Highway.

Police allege the Holloways Beach woman became involved in an “altercation” with the driver of another car on Tuesday, January 13, while driving a Ford ranger, when the vehicles were merging onto the highway.

The woman then allegedly overtook the hilux and collided with it, causing it to crash, and fled the scene in the ranger.

Police said the car also had a false number plate and was unregistered.

She was arrested by Smithfield CIB yesterday and charged with the dangerous operation of a vehicle, using a vehicle without plates attached and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The woman will also face charges related to entering a premise and committing a robbery after a storage cage at a Vasey Esplanade unit at Trinity Beach was forced open and multiple items were stolen from there.

She was denied bail and was due in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
