SPORT DIGEST: Muddies aiming to claw way up ladder - weather permitting
Around grounds
The Muddies cricket teams are all primed to return to the field this weekend after the Christmas break, weather permitting.
Despite the Bureau of Meteorology predicting heavy rain for the weekend, the two Port Douglas-based teams in the Cricket Far North competition are still setting themselves for a couple of key encounters, should they get away OK.
The Thirds will be up against Mulgrave Kerala at Walker Road Sports Complex in Cairns on Saturday from 1pm.
Sitting in fifth, and just percentage out of the top four, the team will be looking for a strong start to the second half of the season to stake its claim for a finals berth.
Meanwhile, the Fourths are away to Norths at Griffiths Park in Cairns on Sunday from 12.30pm.
Although sitting at the bottom of the ladder, the team will be buoyed by recent improved performances, and is looking to consolidate during the second half of the year.
Indoor golf
All teams did well last week as they continued to take the golf courses apart.
A massive 29 points was the winning score for Peter Hay and Tim Preen, who birdied the last two holes to take the cash prize from two teams a shot behind them.
Bad luck to Dave and Rhys, and John and Peter, who had 28.
