School holidays are officially on the horizon, wrapping up a spectacularly busy term for our local schools. From record-breaking fundraisers to big sporting adventures, our classrooms and ovals have been absolutely buzzing, here is your quick look at the latest highlights.

Non-stop action at Wonga Beach State School

It has been a jam-packed few weeks at Wonga Beach State School, with students tackling everything from an aquarium excursion and Under 8s Day to tennis, sports days, and the District Spelling Bee.

The recent Under 8s Day was a major highlight, with Principal Anita Cubit thrilled by the massive community turnout. “It was wonderful to see everyone come together to create such a memorable experience for our children,” Mrs Cubit said.

Holidays are just around the corner, but the fun isn't stopping yet. Students are still looking forward to upcoming PBL beach walks and a pickleball trip to the Daintree before a well-earned break.

Daintree State School’s Biggest Morning Tea smashes records

Students from Daintree State School have raised much-needed funds for cancer research after hosting their annual Biggest Morning Tea, filled with delicious treats, games, prizes, and raffles

All their hard work completely paid off, making this a record-breaking year for the decade-long tradition by raising over $1,700 to help others in need.

Attendees were also treated to a beautiful performance by the school’s new string ensemble, who played amazingly despite only receiving their P&C-donated instruments two months ago and having just seven lessons.

A wonderful group of local businesses sponsored the event, generously stepping up to help make the day such a huge success.

Mossman State School fair fun & spelling stars

Mossman State School has had a massive couple of weeks, starting with a hugely successful Country Fair on June 20.

The school sends a giant thank you to the legendary P&C, sponsors, families, and staff, especially Karly Scomazzon for her six months of behind-the-scenes magic, who went completely above and beyond to make the event such a hit.

The excitement kept rolling as Mossman hosted eight local primary schools for the annual District Spelling Bee.

The competition was fierce, with top spots shared across the region: Mossman took home first place for Years 2, 3, and 4, while Port Douglas dominated Years 1, 5, and 6.

Brilliant spellers from Daintree, Miallo, Julatten, Saint Augustine's, and Wonga Beach also smashed it to land podium finishes.

Under 8s Day at St Augustine’s

Saint Augustine's School recently came alive with joy and excitement for Under 8s Day.

The event brought together our youngest learners, families, and the community to celebrate the pure power of play.

From creative arts and imaginative games to outdoor collaborative challenges, students dove into hands-on activities that sparked curiosity, built confidence, and fostered new friendships.

It was a fantastic reminder of how a positive, inclusive environment supports early learning and wellbeing.
