A new $4m helicopter base is set to be built in the Port Douglas waterfront south precinct area.

Nautilus Aviation will consolidate its operations around the new landing pad, hangar, and office space going in at a close-to-5000sq m site on 35-39 Port Street across from the sports oval entrance and in behind the Coral Beach Lodge region.

If all goes to plan, the choppers are going to take off and land out over the Dickson’s Inlet from two purpose-built landing pads.

Nautilus chief executive Aaron Finn said he hoped the new base could link in with a planned new southern waterfront boat-repair precinct.

“These are exciting times for us as well, and we’ll hopefully see the development go ahead,” Mr Finn said.
