Crocodile bait.

There's a spot actually known as “Ratchit bay” Just south of Port Douglas and been surfed during cyclones for decades. Only time there’s any surf. Entrance of the Mowbray River. The highway bridge of the Mowbray river even has a croc spotting platform.

Ya talk it up like its never happened before.

Jud Heron

My first cyclone surf was cyclone Justin. It was awesome to be able to surf in Port. Dodging debris and coconuts lmao.

Not just the crocs and sharks... it's thought little marine bugs that are invisible not to mention box jellyfish tentacles floating around.

Lisa Lopez

It's the only time to surf - or at the reef breaks... We don't have surf up here.

Luke Ryan

Natural selection.

Neville Latto

Just north of Thorntons Beach. Have surfed it many times. Not these days with the crocs.

Double whammy for Daintree tour operator

North of Daintree River residents and businesses have been spared property damage, but the consequence of the ferry outage - now 19 days - is enormous. We have been told by Douglas Shire that it might be another 10 days (was stated a few days ago by DSC it would be at least 14 days). Looming is the Easter kick-off for the tourism season, and it looks increasingly likely that the ferry may not be operational much before that, or not even… This will be a huge loss for the Daintree, when every tourism business is clinging on with hope that they can push through for Easter.

Meanwhile there’s not a lot of repair activity obvious on the ferry. Where is the sense of urgency? To add salt to the wound, pretty well all grants and assistance is useless for the Daintree as we did not experience actual damage to property. So we’re “on our own”, quite literally. For the Cape Trib community, it is highly reminiscent of Jasper, where we were cut off for 3.5 months with no tourism trade, and much the same issue with govt grants & loans, etc.

Vicki Bidwell

Don't want to take away from anyone that has been damage affected, but this ferry outage is screwing us beyond belief. As if this time of year doesn't have its downfalls. If council could just give us a definite time frame and put our restless minds to rest and start planning on our own recovery.

It’s pouring with rain and you can’t access north of the Daintree… that’s the best bit.

Gav Widdicombe

Would be an even better place to visit if the friggin ferry was going!

Paula Wesley

As long as you don't want to travel on a ferry.

Total shame about what the reporters on channel 9 are saying!! Should be fined for false information!

Jason Tilyard
