He’s not about to get carried away just yet - he is still only 14 years old - But junior Port Douglas Croc Zac Moore has been making some good strides in the pursuit of every young footballer’s dream, to play at the highest level of Aussie rules.

Zac this month attended the Suns Academy training camp in Townsville, where about 45 young AFL hopefuls from across Far North Queensland gathered for a weekend under-16s workshop.

He made it through that test, and will join Suns Academy juniors next month for the statewide camp.

“I got selected to go to the Gold Coast on the seventh of April,” Zac says.

He is playing for the Crocs under-15s and “hopefully playing up in the under-17s”, but is not getting ahead of himself in terms of his AFL dream.

“It’s a long time to go,” Zac says.

“I’m thankful to my dad and brother and seniors coach here, they’ve helped me a lot.”

Zac’s dad Daniel is a three-time Crocs premiership player and an assistant coach at the club, his 17-year-old brother Zayne made his senior debut at age 15, and seniors coach Brad Cooper is also heavily involved in his development.

Another noteworthy connection is that Zac’s uncle is former Richmond player Jake King.

Zac barracks for his uncle’s former club the Tigers, but who knows what might happen in the future if the Suns Academy connection comes to further fruition.

For now, the 14-year-old is just working as hard as he can to give himself the best chance of a shot at the highest level.
