A 34-year-old Mossman woman killed in a three-car crash on Captain Cook Highway on Friday afternoon, along with her infant passenger, was a player with the Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks Rugby League Club.

The Sharks cancelled their travel to Tully for games on Saturday morning with a flow of messages of condolences from the sporting and wider community.

“Mossman Sharks will not be travelling to Tully today this includes all grades - thank you for your understanding,” the post read.

Police said initial investigations showed a white Mitsubishi Triton ute struck a red Mazda MX-5 before colliding with a white MG3 hatchback just south of the intersection with Reynolds Road.

A 22-year-old passenger was airlifted to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The male driver of the ute, a 62-year-old Port Douglas man, was taken to Cairns Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, a 54-year-old Trinity Beach man, and his passenger, a 57-year-old Trinity Beach woman, were uninjured.

Anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or  crimestoppersqld.com.au.
