Jon Stevens fronts Newsport's latest print edition as he gets set to front the entertainment line-up for Savannah Sounds and Port Douglas Carnivale.

It’s all about the Port Douglas Carnivale this week with the party about to get started.

And Newsport Daily Print has the Carnivale covered in the latest FREE edition now out on the streets with a brilliant bold front page of lead act for Savannah Sounds, Jon Stevens.

Stevens is just one big name in a packed program of events across Port Douglas for Carnivale, which also includes a street parade, feasts, a family beach day and cabaret shows under a waterfront big top.

The events officially kick off on Friday with The Longest Lunch at the Sheraton resort during the day on the palm-lined entryway.

That evening, the Macrossan Street Parade kicks off at 6.30pm, with this year’s theme Ancient Wonders.

And there will be no doubt the Carnivale is under way with fireworks launched from a barge at 8pm ringing in three days of live music featuring Stevens and Sneaky Sound System, Kingswood, Dragon and Vanessa Amorosi.

Not as exciting as Carnivale, but arguably just as important, we look at the Federal Budget and where it has impact on Douglas Shire and wider Far North Queensland.

From crackdowns on chop, chop shops and illegal fishers at the Cape, to big money for a Reef rescue and a bit of something to better our bike paths, there is plenty to discuss for Douglas.

The social scene is set to fire up with parties across the region, and our photographers have been out and about as the social set warms up for the big event.

There’s a stack of your comments and letters in Your Say covering the lack of off leash options on Four Mile for dog owners, and some warm tributes for much loved doctor John Archer.

Sport takes a look at the Port Douglas Race Week Regatta and keeps up with the Crocs on a hot streak of wins and clean sweeps for the men and women’s teams, while we celebrate a pack, not a school, of “Baby Sharks” with out Shot of the Day.
