Paramour Cabaret makes bold Port Douglas Carnivale debut
TICKET GIVEAWAY
This year’s Carnivale Big Top in Dixie Park will see a new face, and a whole lot of flair, as The Paramour Cabaret moves in to deliver six different shows of live entertainment from 15-24 May.
Making its debut appearance at Port Douglas Carnivale, the Cairns-based troupe officially opens its doors on Friday, 15 May, promising a lineup that spans from family-friendly science to adult-oriented unhinged comedy.
The festivities ignite with the Opening Night Launch Party, where Carnivale-goers can expect a high-energy DJ, circus-style roving performers, and several unannounced surprises designed to dial up the party vibe.
Wes Evans, co-owner of The Paramour Cabaret, is no stranger to the region but notes that this year marks a significant step up.
He explained that while they have brought the tent to Port Douglas before, this residency features an all-new cabaret show making its world debut specifically for the Carnivale crowd.
“We have brought the tent to Port Douglas before and it was received really well, but this time, along with the opening night event, we are bringing an all-new cabaret show.”
The crown jewel of the residency is Happy Hour, an adult-oriented (18+) show running from May 21 to 24.
Hosted by washed-out, slightly unhinged cabaret character Sylvester Valentine, with the entire performance staged in-the-round.
“It’s all about having fun and leaving your inhibitions at the door,” said Evans.
“It’s really interactive, so audience members should come along with their dance shoes on, ready to be up and dancing right off the bat.
”Beyond Happy Hour, lovers of glamour and tease can take in Barefoot & Burlesque, a 60-minute show on May 16 and 17 that blends artistry and sensuality, delivered by world-class performers.
Other programming includes a one-night-only stand-up comedy night and a live hypnotist show.
Also, new to the program, Blast Lab will bring a high-energy, family-friendly science show to the Paramour Big Top on Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May.
Created for curious kids and families, the show combines live experiments, audience participation and fast-paced demonstrations, with bubbling potions, flying objects and explosive reactions forming part of the experience.
