Sea Circus brings ancient wonders to life for Carnivale
LOCAL PERFORMANCE
As Port Douglas prepares for the return of Carnivale, a local collective is getting ready to turn the shoreline into a stage.
On Friday, May 15, performance group Sea Circus is taking over the grass at The Surfy for a spectacular showcase that blends ancient history with the beauty of our own backyard.
This year’s theme is a journey through the “Ancient Wonders of the World”.
The story follows an explorer traveling from scorching deserts into the lush Daintree Rainforest and down into the depths of the Great Barrier Reef.
Along the way, they’ll encounter mythological gods, goddesses, and legendary creatures in a quest to find two treasures that can protect our world today.
The show takes place outdoors on the grassy area of the Surf Life Saving Club, right by the beach. Bring a picnic blanket or some camp chairs.
You can arrive early to grab dinner and drinks from The Surfy Restaurant before the curtain goes up.
A community collaboration
It’s a massive local effort. Sea Circus is teaming up with PyroGlow Productions, Keep on Dancing, The Clink, and harpist Loni Fitzpatrick.
You can expect aerial acrobatics and contortion, stilt walking and LED twirling, fire dancing and live theater.
The show is designed to be interactive, so people are invited to come dressed as your favourite god, goddess, or sea creature.
During the 30-minute intermission, there will be a group salsa lesson to keep the energy high.
