People's choice
A pair of Far North Queensland icons have won top gongs at the latest Australian Traveller magazine Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Daintree Ecolodge has been named best resort in Australia at the prestigious event, beating out other top destinations including the InterContinental Hayman in the Whitsundays and Elements of Byron in NSW.
And the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk at Mossman Gorge has taken out the award for Best First Nations Experience ahead of other loved tours including Uluru at sunrise and Arnhemland in four-wheel-drives.
“We asked you to vote for your favourite Australian destinations and travel experiences, and thousands of responses came flooding in,” Australian Traveller states.
“Spellbinding destinations, trusted hotels and journeys that have captured our nation’s heart.”
At the Ecolodge, you can stay in a range of treehouse options near a lagoon and in the treetop canopy, or others nestled among wet tropical rainforest.
“Set in the heart of the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest, Daintree Ecolodge is a boutique retreat where treetop bayans, birdsong and flowing creeks invite you to slow down,” is one of the venue’s philosophies.
Industry body Tourism Tropical North Queensland describes the indigenous guided Mossman Gorge tour as magical and mysterious.
“Hear the traditional stories of the area, witness a smoking ceremony and come that little bit closer to understanding the sacred land,” TTNQ states.
Tourism organisation Visit Port Douglas and Daintree: “A guided tour led by the local Kuku Yalanji people, offering deep insight into their land, stories, and traditions.”
