It’s been a sad fortnight for the team at Wildlife Habitat and hundreds of thousands of people who have enjoyed the character in person and online of one of its true characters, Cass the female Cassowary.

Cass passed peacefully onsite at the Port Douglas park due to age-related complications with vet care and members of the wildlife team nursing her.

Cass was a long-term resident of Wildlife Habitat, taking residence in the early days and becoming a crowd favourite over the 33 years at the park.

“Although the team are incredibly sad to say goodbye to Cass, we also want to celebrate the amazing milestone she shared with us and the special place she held in so many people’s hearts,’’ said Wildlife Habitat manager Clare Hunt.

The park has been inundated with messages of condolence and memories, along with pictures of Cass from her fans from across the years.
