Close to three years on from the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Jasper, the end is in sight for the restoration of the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road.

Both lanes on the busy highway up the range are now open to traffic, and the final works to stabilise the last two sites are expected to be completed midway through this month, weather permitting.

Following that the road surface will need to be finalised before the road is expected to be back to its former glory by the end of the year.

“Pavement resilience works are expected to commence in early November 2026 and be completed by the end of December 2026,” according to the State Government Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR).

“During construction, the road will operate under single-lane contraflow traffic conditions.”

More than 10 separate sites have been fixed, with works including slope stabilisation, erosion-prevention measures, anchor installation, concrete-retaining-wall construction and drainage improvements.

The road repairs were paid for out of the joint Federal and State Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
