Savannah in the Round has drawn thousands to the fringe of Mareeba, lured by a line-up that celebrated everything great about Australia and perfect weather for a party.

More than 7500 were in the round - the Mareeba Rodeo Grounds - on Saturday night when festival headliner ICEHOUSE took to The Cape stage to roll out hit after hit, none more stirring for the crowd that had come from all corners of Australia than their unofficial Aussie anthem, Great Southern Land.

But it was not just Iva Davies and his crew who got the passionate crowd belting out homegrown hits. Lee Kernaghan set the scene on that same stage on Friday night. The Wolfe Brothers and Busby Marou fired up the crowds too as act after act entertained around the packed venue and its side stages.

Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley song sparred on The Cape Stage as part of Saturday night’s line-up in a powerful set and show of Australian storytelling in cracking good music.

Don McLean punctuated the Aussie acts on Saturday night, the crowd pumping out Amerian Pie much to the USA representatives delight.

Mental As Anything and the Riff Raff AC/DC Show made sure Saturday’s blinding good day of entertainment was closed with a local flavour.

And Missy Higgins, Hindley Street Country Club and Chocolate Starfish on Sunday made sure we were well represented right to the very end, taking to The Cape stage for another showcase of Australian talent.
