The Muddies Third Grade cricket side batted first against Mareeba at home on Saturday, with captain Dan Harris losing the toss and being sent in for a hit.

Andy Freeman and Gary “Buckets” Postans opened the batting, but the team was in trouble after losing early wickets, and never really recovered, dismissed for 71 in the 33rd over.

No batter made it into double figures, with Nathan King top scoring with 9 from 40 balls.

With the bat, the Bandits chased the total down in the 17th over with one wicket down.

This Saturday the winless Thirds are away to 11th-placed Norths from 1pm.

On Sunday, the Fourths lost the toss and were sent into the field by their Norths opponents.

Norths posted 8/158 from their allotted 35 overs, with Andy Fenwick the best of the bowlers - he took 3/13 from his seven overs.

The Muddies had the opposition 6/65 at one stage before the Norths’ tail wagged.

The batsmen started OK for the Muddies, with Andy Freeman making 23, but they dropped away after that and were out for 86 in the 24th over.

This Sunday the Fourths are home at Port Douglas against bottom side Barron River from 12.30pm.
