Daintree Village postal service finishes this week - Australia Post

Daintree Village locals will have to pick up their post and parcels from Mossman Post office from this Monday, an Australia Post spokeswoman has confirmed.
Village residents have been seeking answers about whether they will have to collect their mail from the neighbouring town, with the impending closure of the pub having a knock-on effect for the delivery service.
The Daintree Village Hotel doubles as the local post office, but with the pub set to close at the end of this month, Australia Post has been searching for a suitable replacement to handle the mail.
“Following a decision by the Daintree Village agent to step away from their business, Australia Post has been actively seeking a new postal operator,” the spokeswoman told Newsport on Friday.
“Unfortunately our search has been unsuccessful, and from Monday 28 September alternative arrangements will be in place for locals to collect mail and parcels at the Mossman Post Office.
“Australia Post acknowledges the importance of postal services for the community and is now exploring other options for local access to mail and parcels within Daintree Village.
“We thank customers for their patience as we work through this and will continue to share any updates."
Urgent emails had been sent by Village residents to MPs and Australia Post in an effort to secure a postal delivery service for close to 100 locals after next week.
A spokesman from Leichhardt MP Matt Smith’s office said the issue had been raised with the office of Federal Government Communications Minister Anika Wells.
"The Member of Leichhardt has spoken with the Minister for Communications Anika Wells regarding this matter to raise her awareness of the situation,” the spokesman said.
“The Member of Leichhardt is well aware of the importance of postal services to communities in the Douglas Shire, which often comes up in his Community Offices in the region.”
Locals spoken to by Newsport have particular concerns for the elderly and those without transport having to travel the 70km round trip to Mossman Post Office to pick up mail.
