Father's Day
When life gets “pretty chaotic”, a picnic at Rex Smeal Park in Port Douglas on Father’s Day this Sunday can be just the tonic.
Port Douglas Crocs AFL club president Matty Laskey has been busy this year helping organise much of the off-field work required to make the club successful on the field, and he has just started a new full-time job as well.
Couple that with his partner in a full-time job and three active young boys aged 2-7, and you have a lot going on.
“We all live a pretty chaotic life, especially with being the president of the footy club,” Matty says.
That’s why Father’s Day on September 6 is a great chance for “just family time”.
“We generally like going down to Rex Smeal Park and having a bit of a picnic afternoon down there,” Matty says.
“It’s just nice being able to have a day where you sort of set aside family time.
“Life can be pretty chaotic.”
There are usually lots of people down at Rex Smeal on Father’s Day.
“Can’t blame them, it’s a pretty good spot down there to go and have a few beers and kick the footy around with the boys.”
Eldest son Hughey, 7, says his favourite part of the day is “Spending time with dad”.
“Once we went fishing on Father’s Day with dad,” Hughey says.
“He takes us fishing lots of times and he sometimes has boy’s days with me and dad.”
