Local artist Chrissie McLaughlin brings live studio to Silky Oaks Lodge
ARTIST RESIDENCY
Guests at Silky Oaks Lodge are being treated to the work of local artist and long-time Port Douglas creative Chrissie McLaughlin, who has set up her easel directly on the lodge’s open-air verandah for an immersive artist residency.
Positioned on the open-air deck near the restaurant, overlooking the pool and lush canopy, Ms McLaughlin paints each day surrounded by towering palms and the calls of native birds, the direct inspiration for her vibrant tropical pieces.
Visitors are welcome to stop by and watch her work take shape in real time. For those after a hands-on experience, McLaughlin is also hosting private, on-site painting workshops to share her techniques for capturing local flora and light.
Her artworks, ranging from detailed botanical studies to bold, sweeping landscapes, are available for purchase on the spot, with custom commissions also available for guests wanting a specific view painted to order.
A fixture of the local art scene since 1990, Ms McLaughlin is the founder of regional creative platform Art in Transit and serves as secretary of Port Douglas Artists Inc.
The residency runs daily throughout the season, giving visitors a unique opportunity to connect directly with one of the region's most established artists.
