More highway night works on the way next month

A new round of night roadworks on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas is set to take place from mid October, the State Government has announced.
Asphalt will be laid down at multiple locations on the busy thoroughfare, according to the Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR) - weather permitting.
“Significant progress has been made on the reconstruction works on the Captain Cook Highway,” a TMR spokesperson said last week.
“To reduce the impact on road users, night works will be carried out at night from 6pm to 6am, Monday to Saturday.”
The new asphalt will be going down at Pebbly Beach, between Rex Lookout and Van Tongeren Beach (Turtle Cove), and at the northern end of Ellis Beach.
Single-lane traffic control will be in place around the clock where the works are happening.
Recently completed works include the southbound overtaking lanes between Ellis Beach and Wangetti South, which are now open in both directions.
A debris-flow barrier and pavement works have also been finished in that section.
But a 24/7 single-lane traffic-control section remains in place there while three more debris-flow barriers are being worked on.
Works to restore the Pebbly Beach sea barrier and road are also continuing.
