Beach Shack has taken out the Port Douglas 8 Ball Competition Grand Final, beating the Tav Rats 7-5 in a tight match at the Reef Tavern on Sunday afternoon.

A transfixed crowd watched on as the teams slugged it out for the trophy, riding every hit and miss.

In the first-to-seven format, Tav Rat Scotty won the first game, but Beach Shack players Chris, Neil and Brendon took the next three.

Tav Rat Stewie hit back to make the score 3-2, but Beach Shack held on to register a hard-fought win.

The day did not go so well for minor premiers FN Cue, who had the double chance but lost the first final to Beach Shack then the next one to the Tav Rats to be eliminated from the finals series without making the Grand Final.

The Muddies Third Grade side headed to Trinity Beach to take on Barron River on Saturday afternoon.

The day did not start as planned, with captain Cam Williams losing the toss and also accidentally injuring himself pre-game, putting him out for the year with an achilles.

From there the Barron openers both made centuries with some beautiful hitting, racing along to 0/172 and then 1/255.

The Muddies did hit back, however, with Andy Fenwick and Imtiaz Ahmed showing some spirit with the ball to restrict Barron to 5/279 in 35 overs.

Muddies openers Andy Freeman and Shaun Hollis put on 83 for the first wicket, but tight bowling by Barron helped slow the run rate.

Hollis was out for 22 trying to lift the tempo, Freeman went on to make 55, and the Muddies finished on 7/138.

The club is holding a junior come-and-try day this Monday (September 28) from 4.30pm-6pm at Port Douglas oval, and is currently recruiting 8-12-year-old players with the aim of entering a junior team this season. Contact Steve on 0411 399 344 for details.
