Wonga skatepark shut during school holidays for much-needed upgrade

An upgrade of the Wonga Beach skatepark is set to begin this Wednesday and take two-to-three weeks.
The works have been brought forward after a contractor became available, but the refurbishment means the park will be closed across the school holidays.
“(The) Council understands that this closure falls during the school holidays and appreciates the community’s patience,” a Douglas Shire spokesman said last week.
“Taking advantage of this opportunity means the refurbishment can be completed before the wet season, ready for the community to enjoy.”
Fencing will be installed around the skatepark tomorrow, putting the popular attraction out of action for up to three weeks.
“Please follow all signage and remain outside the fenced work area,” the spokesman said.
The $130,000 Wonga Beach BMX and skate park at Bell’s Park in Marlin Drive opened in June 2014 as a community-driven project.
