Port Douglas Cup Calcutta off to a flying start
Melbourne Cup Calcutta
The Port Douglas Melbourne Cup Calcutta, raising vital funds for Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club, has jumped to a flying start, with $15,200 of tickets sold as of Thursday night.
Preparations are well underway to host the event being held at ‘the Surfy’, on Melbourne Cup Eve - this Monday, November 2.
Following on the huge success of the Calcutta relaunch last year, improvements have been made to make the night even more enjoyable. Plenty of chairs added and fast easy menu items will be on offer, drink stations added and loads of tickets available to be purchased on the night (up until 6pm).
The event will commence with ticket sales from 4:30pm, the Calcutta horse owners draw at 6pm and then the auction process starting from 7pm.
Get there early if you wish to secure a table as they will not be able to be reserved, enjoy a cold beer overlooking the Coral Sea and bring a friend.
Cup Calcutta and Mega Raffle tickets are selling strongly thanks in part to an outstanding group of supporters who formed a buying syndicate, with a sole purchase of $1,500 worth.
This total will continue to build from ticket sales and becomes the starting pool for the Cup Calcutta. Added to this starting total will be 50 per cent of the Auction prices paid for each of the 24 horses. The other 50 per cent of each horse sold, goes directly to the 24 lucky owners drawn out on the night.
The starting pool and the added 50 per cent of auction sales will become the total pool to pay between the winners of the Cup (40 per cent), 2nd place (20 per cent), 3rd place (10[er cent), last place (5 per cent) and of course 25 per cent of the total going to support the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club.
